Dutchess County

Dutchess County does not have an active SCOPE Chapter.
If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in starting one, please contact SCOPE President, John Elwood.

Hope all is well and finding everyone doing good. As you read through this monthly update, take a minute to think about your last training session or practice and go over what you liked about it, or didn't like about it. Can you do better? What do you want to improve or correct?

You should ask these questions all the time. You know the adage, you get out of it, what you put into it! That's very true when it comes to shooting. Whether for competition, hunting or personal protection, you have to put in the time. Watching videos and reading articles is good, but ultimately, you have to do it!

The piece of advice I'm going to give you this month...Don't look at training as a gauge of your abilities, look at it as a stepping stone to perfection!

Did you know that The Armed Women of America’s Ulster County Chapter meets at Safeshoot on the second Wednesday of every month at 6pm(subject to change)?

This monthly gathering provides an opportunity for members to come together, share knowledge, and continue building skills in a supportive environment.

If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved, we encourage you to join us at the next meeting!

Women that are not members of The Armed Women of America are able to attend one meeting for free! To continue attending you would need a membership with AWA.

You can contact Taylor by emailing classes@safeshootny.com to get more information.

As you may have heard, the NYS budget was signed on May 27th. Within that budget was a provision outlawing the sale of Glock pistols in NYS along with any other pistol that uses a cruciform trigger bar. This will take effect on May 31, 2027. Below is the text from the budget bill:

"Cruciform trigger bar" means a component in a semi-automatic pistol that serves as a linkage between the trigger and the firing pin and has its sear incorporated in a cross-shaped surface.

Any dealer in firearms or gunsmith who, on or after May thirty-first, two thousand twenty-seven, sells, transfers, disposes of, or transports or ships as merchandise a convertible pistol shall be guilty of a class D felony.

On a positive note, on May 18th the Second Circuit court affirmed a lower court's ruling that New York cannot ban licensed gun owners from carrying firearms on private property open to the public, like stores or restaurants.

This basically eliminates NYS Penal law 265.01D dealing with restricted locations. Private businesses that do not want firearms on their property must post a sign indicating firearms are not welcome.
