Scope Report March 2026

We’re pleased to announce that the guest speaker at our next Chemung County Scope chapter meeting on Wednesday March 25, 2026 is Chemung County Executive Chris Moss. Chris has served as Executive since being elected in 2019, after serving as Sheriff for 13 years. I remember well when Chris stood as Sheriff at an anti Safe Act rally at Chemung County Fairgrounds after it’s passage. Chris has long been a supporter of our Second Amendment rights.

______________________________________________________

Although I’m currently in Florida, your Chemung County Scope chapter remains hard at work in furthering the information and mission to retain and enhance our basic human rights.

I’d especially like to thank our treasurer Ross Yaple for submitting our application fee to join the Chemung County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs as a member organization. Strengthening our Federation strengthens us as well.

In other news the Scope committee that worked on updating the NYS 10 most egregious bills has completed that work, and the new listing is on the Scope website. This year as there are so many bills in the NYS legislature that seek to criminalize your basic rights we added a new Watch list of bills. Bills that are basically equally as bad for New York citizens as the top ten, but just didn’t quite make that list. And you should know that two of the members of that committee are from the Chemung County chapter, your secretary Tom Reynolds and myself.

Scope is currently working on the candidates rating lists for the upcoming Primary and General elections for 2026. These lists will include NYS Congressional candidates, NYS State Senate races, and Governor and Attorney General races. There are too many Assembly races for this small committee to go through, but we encourage each chapter to evaluate those and local races on their own. Scope does not endorse any candidate. But these rating lists are to help you identify those candidates who have your basic rights and freedoms in mind, and those who don’t. As always, it’s you the voter that decides which way you want to go. Again, your Chemung County chapter is deeply involved in this activity, including Tom, Joe Atkinson and me.

At the March 25, 2026 chapter meeting we will start again our 50-50 raffle to benefit the chapter. This one will be the daily drawing like last year. Then we’ll do that again at the Pine City club meeting the following Monday. Starting beginning in April at Sullivan Trail, we’ll try the monthly raffle drawing Chad McDonald suggested. That will be the 50-50 held at each meeting I attend, Sullivan Trail, Chemung County, Federation, Scope, and end the month with the drawing at Pine City. The winner will split the proceeds for the month with our chapter.

We will also hold the annual election for our chapter officers, chairperson, co-chairperson, secretary and treasurer. This should be our last election until next year.

Finally I encourage you to put Wednesday March 25, 2026 on your calendar and attend our March meeting of the Chemung County Chapter of Scope. Held at the Pine City Sportsmen’s Club at 187 Mountain View Dr., Pine City, NY at 6:30 pm, this meeting will feature our guest speaker, Chemung County Executive Chris Moss.  Hope to see you there!

Attached is a copy of the flier I’ve made advertising our guest speaker at the next chapter meeting. Those that are able please don’t hesitate to print and distribute it wherever you can in the county, gun clubs, sporting goods stores, other public resources. We’d like to get as much attendance at our next meeting as we can.
